An interesting weekend ahead for merseytravel given already have no money to replace the 139 and they are all tied up covering the giants thing just like Arriva and stagecoach are, so no time or spare drivers/vehicle be suitable to cover routes in the short term.. Not even any small vehicles at LS or RF that would be suitable for most of their routes small roads next week

The fact they have no money to replace the 139 is one of the first things that came to mind as most Avon Services get some sort of payment from Merseytravel to operate, If Arriva or Stagecoach where to take on any of these services they would expect a higher payment as their overheads are higher and since Merseytravel had no money for the 139 getting money for these services could end up being a problem

Spot on! Knowsley council is paying for the 239 for a year initially, just like one of the Liverpool councils paid for the 101 for 6months

There will be a seperate budget for emergency tenders so there shouldn't really be an issue paying for them. As for vehicles Stagecoach are very very quick at pulling in suitable vehicles from elsewhere to cover emergency contacts.

The question is how long will it take Merseytravel to find suitable replacement operators and why?? It's been pretty obvious what's been going to happen for a while, planning officers should have been looking for cover operators the first time Avon showed signs of struggling.

My guess is stagecoach will take on most routes on a tempory service whilst councils find If he company's. Arrivadont have the veichles

And if there is a Seperate Budget for Emergency Tenders then what about the long term?

Its worth noting that on some routes like the 22 Stagecoach tried it and it just did not work and thats one of their busiest routes.

Yes stagecoach tried this whilst avon was operating on the same route. So could be interesting to see stagecoach operate this by themselves. Very large loads recently on the 22 Chester side

Avon actually withdrew the route leaving Stagecoach to operate it on their own, Avon only then went back onto the route after Stagecoach withdrew the route themselves
