Probably the extra seating capacity over the Pulsars and what ever else was placed on the route was most welcome RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - Redmikey - 30/07/2017 08:00 The 130 looks doomed based on the changes coming on the 3rd September. https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/north-west/services/130---sapphire---manchester-to-macclesfield/?direction=inbound&date=170903 They must be stretching the Sapphire brand now surely. My favourite change has to be the Monday to Friday departures from Macclesfield with a 1548 bus and then nothing until 1825! Compared to the way Transdev market their Red express and Witch Way services this is a remarkable rundown of a long standing service. RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - St Helens Rider - 30/07/2017 09:19 Looks like we are witnessing the beginning of the end for this service. Usual Arriva tactic, make the service not very user friendly or curtail it so it doesn't go anywhere useful, then withdraw through surprise surprise, lack of passengers. You only have to look recently at the situation with the 21 in Runcorn. A timetable that's totally anti passenger (to take just one element - no departure out of Macc between 1548 and 1825), but very efficient when it comes to driver duties. Pretty obvious where this is going. Managed decline in action. RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - childwallblues - 30/07/2017 09:41 Managed decline sums it up. It would appear that the route is under threat as are it appears services across the operating area even on Merseyside! Also notice how there's 4 services from Macclesfield to Alderley Park in the morning but only 2 back in the evening. RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - CKC 312L - 30/07/2017 11:27 If the route does get withdrawn maybe there is an opening for a independent company to step in and save the day Maybe someone like Howard's could come in and at least give it go to see how it goes you never know the route might be a huge success for an indedenpent operator with a lower cost base than a big group company. Both D&G and High Peak already run a number of routes which Arriva decided they didn't make enough money from, some of those routes are operated commercially. Although, it should be noted when an independent operator takes over a route on a commercial basis they quite often leave a gap in the service so that they don't incur the expense of getting a replacement driver to cover driver breaks. Speaking of Howards the 27 service already duplicates the Alderley Park/Broken Cross to Macclesfield Hospital to Macclesfield town centre section of the 130. Given the reduction in the number of 130 services at peak times if it might be worth their while to put a second bus on the 27 route between 07:15 and 09:15 and between 16:15 and 18:15, as that might see them get a number of passengers who currently use Arriva, as well as getting back commuters who travel towards Knutsford in the morning and away in the evening that were lost when High Peak reduced the frequency. RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - CKC 312L - 30/07/2017 13:38 I know how an independent operator works having close to 20 years in the bus industry both as a driver and a supervisor and I have also worked for both big group companies as well a small indies not all small companies have a break in service to facilitate a driver break plus a company like Howards could look at using a school driver who just does am/pm schools to cover meal breaks It would be a shame if an all day service was lost because of managed decline by whoever the operator might be big or small RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - knutstransport - 30/07/2017 15:50 I did think why are they terminating buses from Manchester at Wilmslow if they are Macclesfield depot buses. |
