RE: Halton Transport - Metroline1511 - 26/01/2020 11:14 Although several independents have closed down, Halton is the first mainstream operator to collapse since National Welsh in 1992. We now have just 8 traditional municipals left: Lothian, Blackpool, Warrington, Nottingham, Ipswich, Reading, Newport and Cardiff. I wonder where the vehicles will end up? The MCVs, OmniCities and even the Enviro 200s may have some resale value. The Darts are unlikely to see further service. With the shortening of routes 14a & 61, there will be a net reduction of bus services in the area. Now we just have Arriva. And Stagecoach RE: Halton Transport - robertclark125 - 26/01/2020 15:44 How many more vehicles does Arriva need now for the somewhat expanded network? RE: Halton Transport - Metroline1511 - 26/01/2020 17:59 Arriva are of course that bit more dominant in the area now. Arriva now have Crosville Cymru less a few routes with independents or Stagecoach, Crosville less Chester & Rock Ferry with Stagecoach and some Warrington routes with Warrington's Own Buses, North Western, MTL less Gillmoss with Stagecoach, and now some Halton routes. RE: Halton Transport - johnluke - 26/01/2020 18:11 The leader of the liverpool city region mayor stated they would have purchased halton transport to save jobs and keep services but legislation prevents them from doing so RE: Halton Transport - TheShire - 26/01/2020 18:28 (26/01/2020 13:00)trixmax2000 Wrote: And Stagecoach Stagecoach withdrew the X5 a while ago which was stagecoach's only bus route that served widnes so its just Arriva now for time being RE: Halton Transport - wirralbus - 26/01/2020 20:59 (26/01/2020 18:28)TheShire Wrote: Stagecoach withdrew the X5 a while ago which was stagecoach's only bus route that served widnes so its just Arriva now for time being I do wonder whether they disappeared prematurely , does have the feel that Stagecoach found operating from Gillmoss a hinderance for the X5. I think they gave up the X5 because not many people used it. Rarely more than 5 - 10 when I travelled on it. This is just anecdotal and only one experience, but from my own point of view I really wanted to like the X5, but had so many problems on the few occasions trying it. Issues included drivers being clueless about the Widnes area, issuing no / the wrong ticket, services being highly delayed at peak times, terminating short and being sent back to the depot etc. Even one bad experience can put people off - I had many, almost every time using it, and even as an enthusiast was unfortunately reluctant to use the service. But in my opinion if they had stayed on there and improved standards, then by now they could have a monopoly in the Weates Close area and be equalling Arriva's 30-minute frequency between Coronation Drive and Widnes (Arriva's 500) and could be doing well, maybe even expanding.
