MP are trying to raise funds for a fantastic local charity and some of you are trying to pick faults with it. if you dont like it dont come along simple

Nobody can fault them for trying to raise money for a great charity but it’s incredibly risky organising any kind of gathering whether for charity or not.

Plus you can operate a non-DDA bus a select amount of days per year on a public bus service, and that applies to the individual bus and not the route. (If my memory is correct the amount is 12 days?)
This is how some operators such as Warrington’s Own use their classic vehicles for special occasions like Christmas

Exactly it would be more ideal to do something when the situation is vastly improved. A donation shouldn't be a set amount that's what I can't understand. You may get one person who wants to put £5 in and another who wants to put £20 in. You can't just make it up to suit everyone...

Well I hope they stick to social distancing and ban people from travelling from the opposite end of the country.

It is allowed as it’s not a stage carriage service. Technically the fare for travel is free (which you don’t require to register services for) and donation is implied as compulsory. All above board.
It's being advertised as the exact same service they are operating on behalf of Arriva... The Normal folk won't think anything of it they'll get their bus pass out and be told no it's £10 today.

According to the Merseytravel timetable for the X1, the contract with MP ends on 31/12/2020.
Just wondering if there’s a possibility this will be/has been extended until at least 2nd Jan, when the ‘excursion’ starts so it’s easier to coordinate the services?
Also, if what ant17612/Mrboo has said is correct about not being able to sell tickets onboard, how will this be regulated? Or will drivers just assume a direct donation has been made?
Apologies for the amount of questions, I’m just genuinely intrigued as to how this is going to work

Reading the info on MP’s page it sounds like it’s been extended as they will be running a normal service with the regular buses and Duping every trip with an additional historic bus. Normal fares (including Arriva tickets) are valid on the regular service with the £10 day ticket avaibke if you want to ride both the modern and historic buses. It says you can pay on the day cash or contactless or in advance with a smart card. Any money raised from the £10 day tickets going to the charity.

I assume this has been sorted with the relevant parties then (Arriva/Merseytravel/Halton etc)

Nothing needs sorting. The regular service is still running with the regular vehicles as per the contract/registration. They are effectively running additional vehicles as ‘dupes’ and are selling a £10 daysaver type ticket to run on both the regular and dupe buses. Only issue is if a regular passenger try’s to get on one of the dupe buses with a reg ticket??
