RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - Bevan Price - 28/02/2023 18:27 If they can get financial assistance, maybe Warrington might possibly consider extending some Cat9 journeys from Northwich to Winsford ??? RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - Y458 KNF - 28/02/2023 18:54 Has 2633 been withdrawn whilst we are on the subject of Winsford vehicles being moved? When D&G took on the 82 they decided to run one service just behind another on college days, to avoid the need for them to get a decker. Not sure about running costs exactly, but surely in general it's cheaper overall to use a decker instead of paying for 2 drivers to drive 2 single-deck vehicles one behind the other. D&G do it by having a huge gap in the timetable in the other direction. So it's still a PVR of 3 all day but a less user friendly timetable. It would be surprising if someone hadn't make an hourly 84 viable. All of whom have failed to make a commercial success of the route with a decline in both passenger numbers and income from concessionary fares, now with the rise in both fuel, wage and depot energy costs. I do believe the 84 is probably the most viable route to be taken on by another operator, but it’s not the golden egg it’s made out to be RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot - M60lad - 01/03/2023 06:56 The other thing with 84 is that sometimes its hard to keep the 84 longs to Chester to a decent timetable meaning that due to traffic nearer to Chester buses can end up running up-to at least 20 mins late sometimes especially during the peaks. Routemaster gave it a go and maybe could have gotten somewhere if it wasn't for GHA also competing (I believe there was 5 buses per hour at that point between Tarvin and Chester) so they didn't have much of a chance. I do think it's worth saying that no one has tried properly to encourage passengers onto the Cheshire bus networks and so nothing will change longer term. It's just a never ending spiral of decline until the network becomes a skeleton.
