The last section around the A556/A51 junction down to the M53/A41 junctions can be very slow moving in both directions at times , you only need an incident on the M56 and it becomes a car park as people try to avoid an even more congested A56.

Both these busses are still in St Helens and out in service today

Chester West claim there's 3 operators interested in serving Winsford and/or Northwich.

Let's not forget it was 2016 when GHA Coaches collapsed. Arriva have been running an hourly 84 for 7 years since then, not to mention they were running it before then. Arriva did make the 84 a commercial success.
Even though the D&G 84 shorts didn't last as long, we know what they did when they were actually losing money on a 130 from Macclesfield to Manchester Airport. If the 84 shorts weren't working, why wouldn't they have cancelled sooner?
Granted with GHA we have no idea. They were only running duplicate services and their finances were already in the red. The 84 registration itself seemed a very desperate attempt to get some additional fares.

The 84 has traditionally been an hourly service, even from back in the day when it was pre NBC era Crosville C84, the Crewe-Nantwich shorts were numbered K43 back then
I remember 3 operators competing on the full 84 route, it was bizarre bus war what is mostly a rural route, with the only big places villages of Tarporley & Tarvin, not surprising it didn't last

D&G say they are registering a replacement 84. Stagecoach have submitted a registration for a replacement 84. It'll be interesting to see what actually happens now.
