RE: London Midland - childwallblues - 25/09/2015 05:17

The 319 on the St Albans branch yesterday failed with overheating problems.

350/3 are now regular visitors to Liverpool.
On Tuesday 350373 350375 and 350372 were noted whilst yesterday 350369 was in Lime Street.

DfT are consulting on the next LM franchise: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/485332/west-midlands-rail-franchise.pdf

They are asking questions about whether the current rolling stock (350s) is deemed suitable for Liverpool-Birmingham and Crewe-Euston.

The West Midlands local routes will be split in to a separate unit.

The current ATW English services may transfer to LM or/and another TOC as part of devolution of a new Wales franchise.

Its a touchy subject removing say Manchester - Llandudno and Birmingham Intl - Cambrian Coast services out of the Wales Franchise , I see where there trying to go but its fraught with danger will people want to change trains at cold and draughty Chester and Shrewsbury on a january evening me thinks not .

RE: London Midland - childwallblues - 15/12/2015 19:25

The only ATW services wholly in England are the Crewe to Shrewsbury and Chester shuttles.

RE: London Midland - wirralbus - 15/12/2015 20:43

Crewe to Shrewsbury could easily become a LM service , Chester to Crewe could become a Northern service .

If Chester-Birmingham goes to LM then Chester-Crewe could logically finish up with either LM or Northern.

They run a lot more services in England than those two. The Welsh Government want a locally awarded concession to run Welsh services but it's doubtful if such as concession would be allowed to run to Manchester or Birmingham unless the service was a joint service with another operator. The concession running Cardiff to Manchester would be like Merseyrail running Liverpool to Newcastle services.

As express services from Manchester not serving London or Birmingham are generally operated by TransPennine, the service from Manchester to Cardiff could go to TransPennine. The extensions to Pembroke Dock for example could stay part of the Wales franchise.

Checking the eight Class 350 diagrams between LIV and BHM yesterday produced four x 350/1 (350119/27/23/16) 3 x 350/2 (241/53/56) and 350374.
350123 on the 0734 was replaced at BHM by 350108 which was on the 1134.
