I would rather see re-regulation of all services. I'm a socialist but awakened enough know we will never see a non-capitalist solution, so I'd rather see a franchise system with a full network of local routes like we had in Manchester in the 1990's to the early 2000's.

I'm always for de-regulation. I really can't see the pluses of more regulation. Can someone enlighten me?

Deregulation came about because we had a Government in the 1980s hellbent on abolishing State intervention into industry in the name of free-market Capitalism. It wasn't nice then. It isn't nice now.

Reregulation of the buses is the sensible thing to do - pay off the shareholders of these companies, and bring everything back into the public fold to be operated for the public good. However, the chances of this ever coming about are between slim and not a cat's chance in hell.

Then we need a half way house solution , a bit more regulation and a bit more free thinking from some of the companies involved in the bus industry these days , between them they must surely be able to come up with something.
