Dublin & Ireland - redstar - 03/07/2018 22:00

Hi all, redstar here. I will post news from Dublin if anyone is interested. A lot of change is underway, Go-Ahead will be taking over a number of routes from the Autumn in the City and surrounding areas. The next couple of years will see hundreds of new buses if all is to be believed and a complete revision of the Network has been proposed. So its all go. I look after the Transport Scene Ireland Smugmug site and update when possible. Manchester, Merseyside and beyond feature.

Welcome to the forum redstar, always found the operations in Ireland interesting due to their similarities with ours but also the differences so it will be good to read your updates :-)

Thanks. I went to Uni in Manchester in the late 1990s, so someday I will upload my pictures from that era. It was an interesting time for buses.

Go-Ahead are due to operate new route 175 from early September. 24 Dublin Bus routes will transfer to Go-Ahead in groups between October and January 2019. Go-Ahead will operate a mix of new B5TLs, Streetlites and former Dublin Bus B5TLs and B9TLs.

The Dublin Bus fleet is due to remain the same meaning a significant increase in PVR for a number of routes, no details yet.

Go-Ahead Ireland started the 175 UCD to Citywest service last Sunday 9th of September 2018. Doing well so far.

Cork is the land of the Geminis! Recently they have received a number of single door versions from Galway and Limerick, the picture is of a former Galway machine. Galway and Limerick have received new dual door shorter Geminis.

There's an interesting article on Go-Ahead Ireland in November's Buses and also here through Route One.

Dublin Bus are withdrawing the first twenty of the VT - Class of bus. These were delivered in 2005 and are Triaxles. Fabulous buses but the single narrow door, poor fuel consumption and heavy tyre wear were always an issue. The second batch of VT21 to 70, had a wider single door and better tyre/ fuel consumption. 19 of the VTs have been purchased by Ensign.

Part of the 2018 new additions to the Bus Éireann fleet. These are shorter wheelbase B5TLs, dual door and other mods. This is one of 25 notionally split between Limerick and Galway depots, though 3 are currently in service out of Broadstone (Dublin) due to vehicle shortages.

RE: Dublin & Ireland - redstar - 13/05/2019 21:41

The National Transport Authority (NTA) purchased 88 Streetlites last year, many have yet to go into service. Go-Ahead got 40 of these and the rest are going to Bus Éireann for town services in Sligo, Athlone, Drogheda, Dundalk, Balbriggan and Navan. The Athlone complement went into service last week as did Sligos. We await the rest. Bus Éireann have a mix of medium - WM and long WL, Go-Ahead have only long versions (12101 to 12140). Separate to these are two short ones with Dublin Bus - WS1 & WS2 one of which is allocated to the 44B, the other is spare.
