Mersey Gateway Bridge
Oh the Chancellor has just opened a big can of worms with regards residents of Halton not having to pay tolls on this crossing.

So next you will have campaigners asking for free use of other crossings around the country because of this announcement .

I am wondering whether somewhere in the vicinity of this bridge there is a marginal tory seat.

I see the former Chancellors promise has become a victim of a U turn, so jut people in Halton will get free passage.

RE: Mersey Gateway Bridge
What is the current situation at the Widnes end of the bridge? When on the buses, they use the 2nd junction, turn right, right again onto Ashley Way and then left onto Victoria Road. Isn't there meant to be a part between the 1st junction roundabout and Victoria Road? Looking on maps, it shows it was there in June 2018 but gone by June 2019. Is it being rebuilt or what? Going around via Ashley Way must add a good 2, maybe 3 mins onto journey times which isn't good for encouraging bus usage.

Thanks in advance

RE: Mersey Gateway Bridge
I’m pretty certain that previously, buses went straight on across the junction of Ashley Way West to continue along Victoria Road, which then leads onto Waterloo Road and onto Silver Jubilee via a slip road.

Where buses now come off at the new junction and have to pass three sets of traffic lights before turning onto Ashley Way West, used to be two roundabouts, but these were removed when building the flyover that connects Speke Road with the new bridge.

Feel free if anyone wants to correct me, this is based off a hazy memory pre-Mersey Gateway, so could be wrong!
