It might give some of the smaller groups a chance to expand in certain areas if Arriva were split. |

But who would be able to buy it? In our area, the "competition people" who not allow Stagecoach to buy everything -- maybe one depot, perhaps. First have been tending to reduce some of their bus operations. Transdev seem to largely avoid "big city" operations. Rotala - are they big enough to afford all of the Arriva bus operations ? Go Ahead ?? Anyone else ?? And in any case, potential buyers will want to see if/how the city region mayors want to control / franchise bus operations in their areas. |

Management buyouts..... The management know which routes work already, if they all put their money together, management buyouts could work. Obviously Stagecoach and Rolta would try and grab what they can but the rest could work locally. Julian Peddle has shares in Arriva so he would probably try and grab bits for his companies. |

Don't think we would see a management buyout, they would just get swamped by the bigger boys in no time at all on commercial routes. |

RE: Arriva North West - Birkenhead Depot
If there was ever a sell up then Rotala would most probs go for the likes of wythenshawe or bolton as that size of garage would fit into there operations. The merseyside depots would need big operators to buy them as they wouldn't be sold off cheap due to the revenue they produce so stagecoach most probs would beable to take 1 or 2 which would most probably be st helens and speke then the other depots maybe go-ahead as they where intrested in GTL when they sold up. Runcorn would suit the parent company of selwyns. The likes of winsford,Macclesfield and chester probs D+G. The welsh operations would suit stagecoach. Operations else where then possibly transdev would look at some and maybe stagecoach. London ops i think there would be big intrest in that. |

This is all speculation and very hypothetical as there is no suggestion that Arriva is planning to sell its UK bus operations which, incidentally, are very lucrative. All we we do know is that there is a moratorium on fleet replacement within the UK. Until the Brexit chaos is resolved you may as well cast runes if you wish to plan for the future, whether you run a bus company, manufacture cars or pick apples. |

Getting a bit off topic here? The original comment was only made regarding the decker shortage and requirement at LS. |
