EXACTLY! And it's going to take more than a £2 bus fare to recoup all that money back. More like higher council tax and less money for more important things like pot holes etc!

Absolutely right. Most of the investment that Burnham is claiming the credit for, and the subsidy for the £2 fare, is central government money. There is no magic pot of money to cover the running costs going forward, so council tax payers in GM will have to fund it.

Quicker may be more cost effective due to bulk discount on a large order of paint.

In a report on the BBC News website entitled "What happens when councils take control of buses", it states:

"Greater Manchester Combined Authority calculated it would cost £134.5m to bring the region’s buses under public control and has made use of central government funding as part of its devolution deal to pay for this.

The process has been implemented in phases and is due to be completed in 2025 but Labour mayor Andy Burnham says there have been immediate improvements including more frequent buses, later and earlier services and better connections to trains and trams.

Transport for Greater Manchester says the latest data shows its buses are now more reliable, with passenger numbers up."

Not sure where to post this given the photo shows Bee Network branded buses with the TfGM logo.

There was a collision between two deckers in Manchester this morning, both vehicles have suffered significant damage and 13 people were taken to hospital.

As they both look to be Stagecoach buses, this could have otherwise gone in the Stagecoach Manchester thread.

Sad and unpleasant for the people being injured as a result though.

The close up image and video showing one of the vehicles being towed wasn't there earlier. It looks like the update has increased the number of people taken to hospital by 4 unfortunately.
