Railway Anniversary's
Railway Anniversary's
In accordance with Section 54 of the Transport Act 1962 , British Rail published notice on November 7th 1983 of its plans to close the Settle and Carlisle Railway.

If it had been agreed the line between Settle Junction and Carlisle Petteril Bridge Junction would have closed , stations at Settle and Appleby would also have closed .

Happily for the Railway fraternity the closure never happened and now look at the line in all its glory.

RE: Railway Anniversary's
A beautiful line. Something I am thankful to Michael Portillo for.

“People's backyards are much more interesting than their front gardens, and houses that back on to railways are public benefactors.” - John Betjeman
