RE: Stagecoach Chester & Wirral
I can see Stagecoach rightly or wrongly muscling in on at least the profitable parts of Avon Bus if they want to grow/develop the Wirral and Chester business. I think they've hanged fire until the situation with Imperia was settled and now Avon has come on their radar as something which along with Helms, Arrowebrook and even some or all of GHA that could help it grow/develop their Wirral and Cheshire operations without treading on Arriva's toes too much. Don't get me wrong I do like Avon Bus and it would be sad to see them squeezed out as on the whole (when I've used them) they seem fairly well run and do run routes the likes of Stagecoah/Arriva generally do want to know about. Also I don't think Merseytravel would provide replacments for all the routes Avon have commercialised in the last few years, however I do think the X22 does show Stagecoach's intentions at least that Avon could be a possible takeover target for them. If that did happen only A2B Travel and Cumfybus would be left as Merseytravel contractors for unprofitable routes on the Wirral. Interesting (if perhaps not necessairly for the best) times ahead I reckon.

RE: Stagecoach Chester & Wirral
Looking at the timings the the two trips at the start of the day and the one at the end of the day that operate from Chester to Heswall Direct just look like they are there to get a bus to the country end of the route as fast as possible in the morning and as fast as possible back to the depot in the evening .

These timings have seem to have the feel of poaching Avon's passengers by running 10 minutes earlier from Chester and from Heswall operating 5 minutes ahead of Avon .

Is there really enough passengers for two operator's on this route really , certaintly Stagecoach dont seem to think Willaston and Mollington have enough passengers to consider operating via those locations .

Interesting times ahead

Because 3 seats (40 on a floline vs 37 for an Enviro200) clearly makes all the difference....
The expert speaks again.

Why don't you use all your knowledge of running buses and explain to us the differences in standee capacity and why that's important at busy times on Wirral routes?

Totally agree on all points WB. For me though I'm disappointed that it's still going to meander around West Vale. The competitive edge is the speed from Heswall/Neston to Chester. This is still being sacrificed to some extent in favour of the Little Neston Twirlie passes.

Possibly use for route 22 or X22 Chester- Heswall next month? I want to know that Rock Ferry based Floline V138DND back on the road yet?
