RE: Rossendalebus
Most journeys on 273 are set be withdrawn at the end of October, along with the one journey on 274. The funding from TfGM for Sunday service is being withdrawn, while Lancashire County Council will only fund a service between Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom, which will be operated by Boomerang Travel as service 13.

The only journeys that will remain are:
*0715 weekday and 0825 Saturday journey from Rawtenstall to Bolton
*1718 and 1818 Mon-Sat journeys from Bolton to Rawtenstall.
*0805 schoolday journey from Rawtenstall to Haslingden High School as 984 (replacing 274).

Other Rosso changes are re-timings of 244 and 465.

RE: Rossendalebus
Is there any chance another operator will takeover since the service is often busy (especially on market days)? Burnley & Pendle have run it before as 243 (with B10M's).

RE: Rossendalebus
It was mentioned in the Lancashire County Council changes for October that the Bolton-Ramsbottom section was operated commercially but Rosso decided it wasn't financially viable to run the service, while TfGM are not intending to replace the commercial section and Lancashire CC "is not in a position to subside this bus route outside the authority's area."

Boomerang Travel will operate the new 13 service between Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom but anyone wanting to travel from Rawtenstall to Bolton will have to use the 482/483 to Bury and 471 to Bolton or the 244 to Blackburn and the 1 to Bolton.

Ramsbottom-Bolton can still be done by catching the 472/477/481 at Holcombe Brook and changing to catch the 480 to Bolton.

It is normally quite busy when I've been on it during the day.

It would be easier to get the 481 and change somewhere between the top of Holcombe road and Greenmount (the 480 & 481 pass between Tottington and Walshaw). The circulars and 477 don't serve the same stop (even though the 480 timetable says Holcombe Brook) you would have to walk up the hill.

RE: Rossendalebus
I wonder whether Arriva or First could introduce a replacement service between Ramsbottom and Bury? I'm quite shocked at Rosso withdrawing route 273, especially after they have been acquiring buses, albeit modern second-hand stock.

RE: Rossendalebus
They've withdrawn a lot more stock, all S-KRN, X-JCW and X-UKS darts have been withdrawn. I have seen photos of S121 KRN and S123 KRN at PVS, not sure if they are being scrapped or sold on through the dealer. MAN's CU04 AMX, CU04 AOP and CU04 AUV have also been withdrawn only 10 years old (presumably due to parts since some of Arriva's have gone too).

It is a lot more common to see Olympians in public service recently and at a certain time on schooldays you can see 3-4 go through Bury interchange together.

Arriva, First and anyone else have now had plenty of time to register a commercial replacement, but there has been no suggestion they would do. The Tonge Moor Road section is well served, and the Ramsbottom Road/Bolton Road section north of Affetside has retained the 480 - which may have been significant in the decision to withdraw 273. That only leaves Bradshw Road which is not exactly good bus country.
On the few occasions I've visited Bolton in recent months, the 273 has been run by Darts rather than newer/bigger Volvos.

Whoops, yes I did mean between Ramsbottom and Bolton. It seems that as most of route 273 was covered by other routes no operator felt able to afford to register a replacement route.

I think the best hope of a replacement Bolton - Ramsbottom commercial service might have been if there had been a small, independent operator in the area. Someone around the size of Jim Stones or Hattons fleets, but based in the Bolton / Bury area.

If only Freebird where still running as a public service bus operator (I wonder what they would have in their fleet for that purpose).
