Stagecoach Manchester

RE: Stagecoach Manchester
Stig, don't worry, it would have come out sooner as I've been asked about it a few times over the last week or so. We're clearly within the 56 days now so its not as much of an issue to keep it under wraps. The 76 has been earmarked for improvements since the last enhancement, presumably a phased enhancement was seen as a better approach than all-at-one. However, this will also provide additional capacity to replace the 183. |

RE: Stagecoach Manchester
I wonder how long it will be until the 76 (or perhaps an extended 74 in order to serve Woodhouses and Hollinwood) replaces the 78 to/from Oldham during late evenings and Sundays given that early evening journeys are running to/from Oldham on the 76 and particularly as (unless this is an error on the Traveline website), the 78 will run from Manchester to Oldham but from Oldham to Failsworth (except the last journey which continues to Manchester) during Mon-Sat evenings from next week. |

I would have thought Ashton would have been pleased with something a little newer, but if they're not much good with hills then the Glossop route isn't really for them I suppose. I have to say the current Ashton Enviro400's are really starting to show their age now. Some sound really rough and there have also been a few breakdowns recently. But I suppose they're still a bit young to go Magic and I wouldn't think Stagecoach would be looking to replace them for a while given all the money they've just spent on Hybrids and the other 12 reg's. |

The older Enviro400's don't require adblue hence being slightly more spritely |

Interestingly since Saturday, when two 08 reg Enviros on the 236/7's I've seen non in Glossop since. Perhaps the allocator has taken note Have to agree regarding some of AZs Enviros, they do sound in a bad way, and as a passenger they are very noisy downstairs compared to the younger ones. It would be nice to see some younger ones at AZ. |

As for this Route 50 - Will this be the end of the Route 9? Last I heard it was a TfGM tender, however if the route is followed identically by a commercial operation, there will be no need for it will there? Even though the route is longer, it might give First a run for their money on the 180/184 route. So we can assume then that 40 of these will be State of the Art Hybrids worth over £250k each can we? And that they will compliment their existing stock of 50 hybrids, oh sorry, First don't have any Hybrids yet do they? Oh dear, lol. Well at least they can console themselves knowing they match Stagecoach in every area with new buses, a fleet of over 400 Enviro's built over 6 years, oh, maybe not that many for First, oh dear! And what are all those R, S and T reg's still on the road? Most of Stagecoach's left service years ago, and are now only in temporary service during the Olympics. Still, look on the bright side. First will have a healthy looking museum when the Olympics are over, lol. |

I would guess drivers have probably complained about them. Most were on the 330 yesterday, a far more gentle route. It doesn't look like they'll be staying now though as we've had word they are just loans. Maybe Stagecoach will consider transferring some of the 59 reg's to AZ once the hybrids arrive. Would be nice to see. |

Now let's see First follow suit on that one! From what I've heard it will see off most, if not all P-T reg vehicles in Manchester. And yes, they may not be Hybrids, (that's a different argument altogether anyway) but nevertheless they are still new buses. First do have the 14 hybrids at Queens Road, but I admit they don't come close to those Stagecoach are operating. However that all boils down to an operator's preference - if First don't want to buy Hybrids, they are completely in their right not to do so! (No, I am not a First 'fanboy' however someone has to defend them where needed, don't they...) Meanwhile FirstGroup provide a diabolical service, charge extautionate fares, and you can guarantee that at least one bus allocated to your route is over 10 years old. All in all, I do agree that they do not come close to the likes of Stagecoach when providing astounding passenger services at decent prices.
