The obvious issue with tendering for local contracts such as the 17/30 is they are competing with HTL (for example on that tender) who pay drivers less so theoretically can always do it for cheaper, both buses on that route work off nearby services too so very little dead mileage, probably similar to what Halton would operate anyway as they would need 2 buses in St Helens for 7pm not just the one. Some tenders too are just one day tenders, the 211 being operated Saturday only, Monday - Friday being a HTL tender again. They seem to have steady loads on the 14s whenever I see them despite the masses of 79s around them. Oh Superman where are you now, when everything's gone wrong somehow, the men of steel, the men of power, are losing control by the hour.
