It would be quite an easy system for Stagecoach and Arriva to introduce in Liverpool and Wirral if they wanted to (easy in comparison to other operators). Cross river and cross border journeys excepted since they cost more.

That is why the 'tap off' device is placed on a hand rail near the front, normally on the left, facing the back of the bus so you always see it when you get off. The idea being just tap quickly as you walk past. You don't need to go to the ticket machine.

Could it be argued that you save time at the boarding stop since you won't be asking for a ticket etc, you just tap on so overall it evens itself out?
