It is illegal for local authorities to subsidise their arms-length bus companies. Indeed, when I worked at Halton BC we were paid a dividend out of Halton Transport's profits - this in effect help keep Council Tax down. It is all in black and white in the Council's accounts that you are welcome to check.

i could say fiddlesticks to the above,Halton may have made a better commercial fist of things over the years than some we could mention, Warrington is in debt to the council,so explain that one, i say sell these companies there is no valid reason for them to be owned by local councils at all.
