These trains will be for manchester to replace the class 323 which will go to London Midland. Then, when the brand new trains (class 331/1, i.e. 4-cars) will be in service in 2018/2019 for Manchester services, the class 319s will be on the Liverpool-Blackpool and Manchester Victoria-Blackpool services. The franchise announcement said cascaded 4 car EMUs might temporarily be used on the Glossop route from December 2017 until new EMUs arrive. However, Porterbrook have said the 17 x 323s can stay with Northern until 2018/2019 so if 319s go on to Glossop it'll likely mean 323s will go on to another Northern service until the new trains arrive - possibly a 6 car 323 working on Manchester Airport to Blackpool or Hazel Grove to Preston until the new CAF EMUs arrive?
