We all need to remember, as we approach its 30th birthday, that bus deregulation was a means by which central government could reduce its financial support to bus services by putting them into the private sector. The ideology then, and even more so now, is that the private sector exists to make a profit. As the locals in the shire counties know only too well, if it's not profitable it doesn't run. Just be thankful you don't live in the neighboring counties of Lancashire or Cheshire. |
