This is something I knew was coming around six months ago, having heard about it via one of the other regions. The signs were evident if you knew where to see them, such as TfGM's timetables featuring an 0161 number instead of the main Traveline number.

Thing is, each region is individually run and managed, and if a the partnership decides to end, then the site will close. It just so happens that the contract for the North West has just ended, and they clearly decided not to renew and carry on. There is nothing stopping an authority using the services of another region, technically that is already the case with one southern authority and this regional team is more than happy to look after data for any authority in the country.

There is the national portal, but that is dependent on data being sent from the authorities or Traveline regions. There is also a delay, which means the national portal is around 1-2 weeks behind.
