Upcoming service changes in Merseyside

The main change is the route. The 22A will serve Ness and Burton, while the 22 will continue through Willaston whose service will be reduced to every two hours.

Looking at the timetable there is also a difference in operation around Little Neston which may cause confusion for passengers around Mellock Lane, the 22 will continue via its current route (West Vale, Marshlands Road, Little Neston then to Chester) However the 22A will go the opposite direction. according to the timetable (Little Neston, West Vale, Marshlands then to Ness/Burton). Therefore journeys towards Chester will operate on both sides of the road... 22 on the same side as the Royal Oak, and 22A the side opposite the royal oak and journeys to West Kirby vice verica which is bound to cause to confusion.

Mollington also appears to be served on Saturdays according to the timetable.

I have also edited the timetable above, it no longer appears to work, it did at the time of posting.

Isnt this a little similar apart from the alterations to the route to operate via West Vale and little Neston to the C22 and C23 prior to deregulation .

RE: Upcoming service changes in Merseyside
The old 22/23 and before that the C22/C23 used to have a similar set up - C22/22 every 2 hours via Burton and the C23/23 every 2 hours via Willaston. The difference being that til the early 90s neither bus diverted via Little Neston or West Vale. When that diversion was introduced, only the 23 from Willaston went via Mellock Lane , with both the 22 and 23 going via Greenfields and West Vale. This avoided buses going to same destination stopping on both sides of Mellock Lane.

The other difference is that only the 22 went via Parkgate, 23 going via Liverpool Road out of Neston.

The map of Neston showing the routes is at the back of the old Cheshire CC guide from November 1994 taken from the excellent Railwaymedia website

Interesting booklet to see how things have changed over the years .

The changes to the 22 will result in the buses via Puddington and Burton picking up nobody in either locations , its a very orientated area now
