Netherton Village which is the turning circle on Northern Perimeter Road is longer used although the turning circle is still there, used to be terminus for the 55 & old 30-30A. Eastham Village old Birkenhead route 39 most buses bypass the Village Bromborough Acre Lane old terminus for the 28-28A also also Brookhurst Estate old 42-43 terminus before 28-42 being extended to Mill Park. Stork Factory used by route 00 until the mid 70s Moreton Shore 22 & 77 terminus before the 77 merged with the 3 & 22 extended to Leasowe, which brings another terminus no longer used Castleway North/Leasowe Road although blinds on the 22 showed Leasowe. Moreton Bermuda Road buses no longer terminate at this location. Meols buses tend to go through Meols old C22-C23 later becoming 22-23 terminus. Greasby Well Lane Just add old Crosville routes to Vauxhall Motors, & Bowaters Paper Mill, Thornton Offices, Capenhurst BNFL Works not used anymore. [quote='MTL0201' pid='65733' dateline='1415798455'] Netherton Village which is the turning circle on Northern Perimeter Road is longer used although the turning circle is still there, used to be terminus for the 55 & old 30-30A. The 55 and 30A did display 'Netherton Village' for the Northern Perimeter Road but that was inaccurate. Netheron Village does exist a few hundred metres further on. The 55 now passes it on its way to the Old Roan. Many, many years ago it was the terminus for the original 53A that went from the Black Bull to Netherton, possibly the shortest bus route in the world. I think it had a running time of 9 minutes! |

Not sure but i think Northern Perimeter Road wasn't a through road as it is nowadays, so buses couldn't extend to Old Roan as they do today. Interestingly at D-Reg the 55 briefly became a circle route with a new number 53 replacing part of the old 28, think was around 1988 when the 55 started to terminate at Old Roan. The Northern Perimeter Road was built in sections as the housing estate was built. The first ten metres of the original country lane that existed prior can still be seen close to where the much-awaited Thornton by-pass is being built now. Incidentally, I stand corrected. The 53 went to Netherton Village and the 53A went to Netherton (Magdalene Square). |
