New vehicles have to be able to pay for themselves. That's why the more profitable depots like Speke and Green Lane will get new stock on a more regular basis

Oh a new liveried Pulsar on the 219 this morning , the end of an era as the former Merseybus 18 /18a , Arriva 418/9 Mill Park services cease after today , lets see what happens in the review of the review.

Merseytravel seem to think we in South Wirral don't deserve a bus to Arrowe Park Hospital any more ?

It will need a bus to Arrowe Park even more now that the walk-in centre is up for closure and it is being recommended that people from the Eastham/Bromborough area using the walk in centre as Arrowe Park Good thinking just as the bus service gets axed the health authrity want to close the walk-in centre

As annoying as it might sound, the reality is that in a free market economy the primary and sole focus of any privately owned bus company in this country is to make a profit for its shareholders. Prior to bus deregulation buses were called PSV's (Passenger SERVICE Vehicles) but now they are PCV's (Passenger CARRYING Vehicles). It's been over 30 years since buses were a public service and the fact that poor, sick people can't afford to get to a hospital is not the concern of Messrs Arriva, Avon and Stagecoach. Harsh but true.

Arriva are not privately owned bis company, as they are ultimately owned by the German Government via DB.

I am fully aware of that and the fact that it is (German) state-owned doesn't change that fact that Arriva is not publicly owned. It is driven by the profit motive in order to support GERMAN public transport not British. Arriva cannot and will not run an unprofitable bus route to provide a service for the sick, elderly and the poor.
