That's exactly the reason the 10 was rerouted out of York Road, Connah's Quay during the evening, because idiots kept parking opposite each other instead of on their driveways. These are the same people that will say they don't want bigger buses driving down 'their' road. They probably won't even appreciate the fact that the 'footprint' of a double decker is no more and often less than a saloon. |

In this case, perhaps they should ask themselves what the footprint of a fire engine on an emergency is! That's a very sweeping statement, especially as the issue in York Road was nothing whatsoever to do with the local authority. If an obstruction is being caused it's a police matter and the police are not at all interested. |

It is true though that illegal parking is becoming a major issue, especially in residential areas where the local authorities have little appetite to ensure enforcement is carried out. Plus most of the Laws have not been updated since the days of the Horse & Cart. |

Another problem is where there is bus lane operation but it does get adequately policed resulting in buses having to try and get round parked vehicles , negatting bus lane operation by forcing buses back into the normal lane of traffic . |

Presumably, it becomes a police matter if an intending passenger requests the driver to remove the vehicle and they refuse. I assume it then becomes "deliberate obstruction", and therefore a criminal matter. In the case of York Road the problems existed prior to decriminalisation of parking offences and the responsibility fell to the police who weren't interested. Even after decriminalisation the Section 137 offence of 'Wilful Obstruction of The Highway' doesn't automatically pass to the LA. I was operating an evening 40 service in Chester many years ago and took a full size Volvo demonstrator saloon out for the shift. In Upton I encountered two vehicles parked opposite each other, blocking my path. After knocking on doors I located both drivers who refused to move as my bus was 'too big' (in comparison to the usual Dart which probably wouldn't have fitted through either), so the police were called. I was disgusted at the attitude of the officer attending who basically agreed with the residents. She did however make one move to allow me through. That's the kind of thing we're up against...... |

Still got the same problem in Upton today as well as Vicars Cross and Pipers Ash. |

One easy thing to do to upset the passengers even more is say we can not serve these roads due to inconsiderate parking and let them sound off to there councillors. |

This has already happened on Stagecoachs service 8 being re-routed so it doesnt serve the Groves around Pipers Ash. Back in September that got re routed. |
