2017 Diesel Gala's
Somewhere to discuss the diesel gala's happening at preserved lines in 2017. I am looking forward to the Severn Valley Fest in May and the Wensleydale 60 years of Class 20s gala in September.

East Lancashire Railway - Spring Diesel Gala
Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th February 2017

Start the year off with the roar of engines at our first big diesel event of the year. Featuring an extensive all diesel timetable and starring both guest locomotives and engines from the ELR’s reputed home fleet this is going to be one to watch.

Visitors 6 to 8 have been announced for the Severn Valley Railway's Spring Diesel Festival.

Once again GBRf will be supporting the event and will be sending a TBC 66 that all being well won't have worked a passenger service anywhere ever before and will also be providing one of their Class 73s.

The big one though is the confirmed attendance of the sole surviving Class 17 "Clayton" No. D8568 from the Epping & Ongar Railway courtesy of Diesel Traction Group.

We're now up to 10 visitors for the Severn Valley's Spring Diesel Festival.

DB Cargo are supplying a loco which will be announced nearer the time but looks likely to be a Class 60.

D05 Group will provide Class 47 No. 47828 making its return to railway for the first time since 2001 when operated by Virgin and once named 'SVR'. It currently wears debranded DRS blue but have been advised it'll carry Intercity Swallow once the event comes around in May.

Last but not least 10 visitors is not the end, there's even more surprises to come!

Visitors 11 and 12 for the Severn Valley's Spring Diesel Fest have been confirmed! They are 33108 courtesy of the Class 33/1 Pres Group and D6700 (37350) courtesy of the National Railway Museum.

Shaping up now to look absolutely superb just like last year!

Severn Valley Spring Diesel Festival - 18-20/05/17

Shaping up to be just as good as last year if not better. 16 visitors have been confirmed so far to work alongside the home fleet. They are;

D8568, 20189, 20205, 31271, 33035, 33108, 45041, 45060, 47192, 47828, 50008, 55022, DB Loco (Likely to be a 60), GB 66, GB 73 and the first ever passenger duty for a DRS Class 88!
These will join forces with home fleet D2961, D3586, D4100, 12099, D9551, 50031, 50035, 50049, D1015 and D1062 the latter appearing in resplendent BR Blue! (All subject to availability).

The two sole surviving Class 45/0 "Peaks" will work alongside one another in preservation for the very first time.

D2961 will perform special brake van rides at Highley. An absolute treat considering it is usual confined to the boiler shop at Bridgnorth.

A rake of Mk2 Air-conditioned coaches is also being hired in for the event.

CLASS 88 To The SVR!

We are pleased to announce that Direct Rail Services 'DRS' have agreed to support our Spring Diesel Festival with no less than a brand new Class 88 locomotive.

The Class 88 is another technical innovation from DRS for the provision of superior traction equipment for UK operation, which will result in a step change for delivery of freight and passenger services.

A further development of the Class 68 platform, the Class 88 is a true “Dual Mode” locomotive combining both 25kv Electric and Diesel Electric operating modes.

Our Spring Diesel Festival takes place between May 18-20 and this Class 88 will be making the first ever public passenger runs for its type here at our event.

To say we we are thrilled would be an understatement, and we are most grateful to DRS for agreeing to provide this most prestigious guest locomotive to operate at the Severn Valley Railway.
