RE: Merseyrail
508212 went on a one way trip to the Fire Training College, located near Moreton-in-Marsh. Doesn't take a genius to work out how 508212 will expire. |

RE: Merseyrail
Meanwhile, 508301-303 are due to start warm storage running in September according to the same source after several years in storage without turning a wheel in anger. Clearly not quite the end of the line for these three just yet.

RE: Merseyrail
You do wonder who the leasing company thinks wants these units though after being sidelined for so long . |

RE: Merseyrail
Merseyrail could easily "do an FCC" and give them a fairly minimal refresh, keeping the original seating but retrimming it. Keep the /3s back mainly for peak hour workings, possibly one based at Kirkdale and two at Birkenhead each day for certain Ormskirk/Hooton line diagrams.

RE: Merseyrail
Seems that Matthew street festival has caused the closure of James st for a second year , but this time No wirral line service is going to stop at moorfields , making easy interchange rather impossible between Wirral and Northern as Liverpool Central Northern Line is closed. |

RE: Merseyrail
Also the free rail link bus service will not operate! that great thinking Merseytravel. Fact for many years James Street operated well during the Matthew Street festival and it is a major throughfare. Its almost as bonkers as closing Central on Grand National Day! I dont understand why no direct link to the northern line cant be done at moorfields, even if the station is not opened to the public but merely as an interchange. I dont see why James Street and Moorfileds can't open as usual. They did for many years during Matthew Street without problem. That was the whole idea of building a blinking loop, to enable commuters to disperse around the city, instead of creating a grid lock at central and lime street. Why not stop at Hamilton Square and make us swim!! Awful decision and no need. I'd love to see which suit / clip board/ idiot on 50K plus thought this one up, and also which board members approved it. It also has a knock on effect on the local businesses close to James Street. Do you think they would have closed Stratford for the Olympics! Life is for living ! |

RE: Merseyrail
Its a Hobby , you have to think the road network in the city centre is severely affected by this music event , this means that anybody who wants to travel from one part of the merseyrail network to the other part will have to negotiate the streets of Liverpool . James Street is closed on the advise of the emergency services as the potential for over crowding is high and the presence of a stage in Water Street precludes the use of that entrance / exit . |

RE: Merseyrail
James Street suffers from lack of emergency egress since the concourse was refurbished with a gateline and new, (larger), booking office. In days gone by, you could exit from the back of the 4 lifts straight on to the street. Now, 1 lift is no longer fully functional, 2 lifts are generally okay, and 1 lift has a dodgy motor... (by the way, the "suit / clip board/ idiot on 50K", only correction is to say £32k but... ) |

RE: Merseyrail
Absolutely terrible to have no easy Northern/Wirral Line connection. That'll screw up a lot of travellers plans, especially if the weather's good. Not everyone wants to go to the Mathew Street Festival. It's a Sunday service again as well on the Bank Holiday Monday. I made my feelings clear on this last year, so will keep it short here - the Southport line will at least be 4 trains per hour, so it's really the Ormskirk passengers I feel for. The 2010 Festival had 4 trains per hour with mainly 6 car formations, and even then it was severely overcrowded. You can imagine what it'll be like this year then with only the same number of carriages per hour as a normal off-peak Monday. The Ormskirk line is full to standing for much of the day on Bank Holidays at any time of the year, so this is not at all good. BTP, you've a lot to answer for.
