RE: TransPennine Express
Beat me to it !
;
Schedules now in RTT, but still clearly some cancelled trains still shown as running, and it would appear the 21.34 Scarborough-MIA is shown loco hauled in error.

RE: TransPennine Express
As part of the ECML consultation it has been proposed that:
- Liverpool to Edinburgh via York will be terminated at Newcastle.
- Manchester Airport to Newcastle services will be shortened at both ends to become Manchester Victoria to York
- Manchester Airport to Redcar services will be extended to Saltburn with longer layovers at York.

Full details and how to respond:

AS so few Newcastle trains continue to Edinburgh and there is currently no service from Newcastle to Manchester Airport this doesn't feel like much of a change. The Saltburn connection is a good initiative though.

But that is only because of Covid. While no-one really has a clue regarding the long-term effects I cannot believe any of the possible benefits counter the potential loss of business between MIA and Darlington/Durham and Newcastle - and of course first group stand to gain business for their open access Edinburgh trains.

RE: TransPennine Express
I can't speak for everyone but I would say the Newcastle to Edinburgh trips should never have been introduced. They weren't really needed, there was plenty of existing passenger capacity on the ECML. It was never needed and merely there to extract revenue.

Longer layovers at York on the Redcar services isn't very good either. The whole consultation is a bit stupid. Supposedly wanting to bring people back to the rail network and yet they are reducing the amount of trains which will make existing ones busier and especially things like the Manchester Airport link. Thanks to the train links, 17% of passengers going through the Airport, connect to/from the trains.

North TPE services in to Piccadilly provide useful and well used links for students from South Manchester, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire and Derbyshire to get to universities in Yorkshire and the North East. With the proposed new timetable one change could become three, which isn't convenient if you are travelling with suitcases.

It's just like the 2008 WCML consultation, they want to introduce more long distance London services so the only question they are asking is which routes lose out as a result.

Huddersfield is the largest place which really benefits from the Liverpool to Edinburgh service (for Liverpool and Manchester it's quicker to go via Preston even if it involves a change.)

RE: TransPennine Express
The truly bonkers part of the whole thing is that the multi-million pound station at Reston only gets four trains each way, and that at the expense of worsening the service at stations that already have irregular services!

It seems a couple of 68s and Mark 5 Sets have joined the 777s at Warrington Walton Yard.
