As far as I'm concerned, if a bus can get me from a to b, and is in a half decent condition, then it should be running The whole point of the 15 year rule is to have newer and more reliable buses operating on Merseytravel contracts, as how many cars 15 yrs or over do you see on the road, like anything mechanical things become more problematic with age..... |

I am all for newer busses, but I think that the more unreliable busses should go, no matter of age |

RE: Avon Buses
In my experience new buses are often far more problematic than old ones. Look at when A.1.A got the first two Solos, they were off the road all the time. We used to get one of the 'BUS' plated Mercedes on the 171/173 quite regularly because it it would last the night unlike a Solo. Arrivas Cadets weren't very reliable at first and one ended up catching fire in Neston early on in it's career. Bring back Bristol REs. Reliable, they get better mpg than modern buses and you can run them on almost pure sunflower oil so they're even better for the environment. |

I don't think that 15 year rule is strictly enforced. Surely the R reg vehicles First always use on the 141/142 are 15+ ? |

R registrations are from 1997 onwards,so in theory anyone running vehicles with these registrations are allowed to until December 31st 2012, then the buses age would come under scrutiny if operating on age defined contracts, as the vehicle in question could have been registered in 1998. |

RE: Avon Buses
I remember travelling on a First Dennis Dart (think it was the P973/4/5 MBF and M964 XVT) on 38A or 39, then changing to get the 83 at Moreton and more often than not, the New Alexander Darts broke down. Just goes to show, although all of those first darts are now in pieces (I think) |

RE: Avon Buses
How has the new extended 17 and 17A been doing, from Moreton to West Kirby ? Has there been much impact as this happened when the 83A alterations happended at the same time? Life is for living ! |
