Then a First Volvo Olympian passed and sounded so quiet in comparision! To be honest I've never found any of the younger Enviro400's too bad. The noisey cooling fans only seem to effect the older Enviro400s. From the 08's onwards the engines are generally a lot quieter even when accelerating uphill. Hopefully with the arrival of these new buses over the next few months we can see off the remaining older sheds |

Yes the new hybrids will very likely take us a step closer to getting rid of the old Enviro400's, but I don't think there will be so many Enviro400's cascaded this time. I think Stagecoach Manchester may take this opportunity to finally get rid of the S reg MAN's. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a few Enviro400's (of any age) go to Wigan or Middleton. Another little note, once the 56/07 reg's have gone, there's plenty of 57 reg's at Hyde Road to keep up the noise levels of the Euro 3, which will likely be here for at least another year yet |

We could do with some more at Wigan, when 19524 broke down yesterday and we were transferred onto an Enviro200 I heard the supervisor telling a passenger "we simply don't have enough double deckers at the depot" I've lost count of the times passengers have said "I'll get the train, that bus'll be packed" referring to the 540 and 598s leaving Wigan between 3 and 4. I myself caught the train too simply because the buses were a single deck 9/10 times and were just too full. More Enviro400s at Wigan to be used on peak time journeys would be welcome. Jack

The 'S' reg MAN's that I've been on in Stockport recently sound a lot better than quite a few of the 'X' reg's. |
