Trident 0811 (L80 BUS) and the Condor were the last buses to operate the 168 last night.

Not yet reported is that the Solo SR has been sold (with its original plates). The Tempo has reverted back to its original plates and is awaiting sale.

Another SOLD vehicle is the infamous B10B/Endurance, 0712 (N659 EKD).

So it looks like an MTL vehicle, but -of course- it never was one!

Because it's been owned by FIVE different bus companies and its STILL on Merseyside!
Most buses get scrapped at 15 years, but this 18-year old Volvo just keeps on rolling!
Not many buses achieve that.

Brief history of this bus;

CMT Buses 1996-2003,
GTL 2003-2005,
Stagecoach Merseyside 2005,
Stagecoach Yorkshire 2005-2009,
Peoplesbus 2009-2014,
Presidential Travel 2014-

Who's to say it'll still be around in another 18 years?
Worthy of preservation surely....

Caught up with Peoplesbus' Routemmaster RM180 yesterday evening on the Shiverpool tour - well worth £14 a ticket!

According to Bus Lists On The Web, this AEC Routemaster/Park Royal was originally registered as (VLT 180) meaning it was new in February 1960.
It seems to have been one of the last few RMs to have operated in the capital when it was owned by London Sovereign.

Looks like a nice RM, and (being 54 years old) it's probably been re-engined, but I still don't fancy a ride, especially with that huge hole in the back end letting all that freezing cold winter air in.
Maybe that's why it's called 'Shiverpool'?

It was a pleasant 90 minutes - that has to be said, as with all Routemasters it was actually heated very well. It now features a Cummins 6BT engine (that found in a Dennis Dart) coupled up to an Allison AT546 (the model up to the one found in a Dart), which pulled the vehicle along at a good speed and it certainly ironed out all the bumps on Liverpool's roads.

So it's got more in common with a Dart than an RM.
Sounds a bit like a wolf in sheep clothing!

I've heard some RMs have been re-powered with IVECO or Scania engines, which is a pity really as it takes away some of their originality.
Original factory-fresh examples with good history are worth an absolute fortune!

Very few "original" Routemasters are around, due to the way they were overhauled at Aldenham. When they entered the works the bus was split into three units, the body, front running unit and rear running unit. At the other end of the works, three completed bits were put back together to make a bus, but not necessarily the three bits that went in together. Also a bus didn't always come out with the number they went in with. A long time ago a saw a photo of two buses with the same fleet numbers and registration numbers. One going in for overhaul and one coming out. LT had a special dispensation to do this. As a result some fleetnumbers vanished for years.

The ones like the Peoplesbus one that got the Cummins/Allison conversion seemed to be the most common. Much nicer than a Dart to ride on! I personally like the Scania engined ones, they sound really good. RM1289 owned by Aintree Coachline is a Scania one.
