There are notices up on buses that the fares won't be subsidised from the 19th. I think that some of the Sunday morning 55 journeys (perhaps 05:52 until 08:22 journeys off Old Roan) should be renumbered 55A and they should do a loop to Glovers Lane and back after Almonds Turn, at least going towards Liverpool (where they get 10+ minutes of lay-over anyway). There's no buses around my area to Liverpool (apart from the 130, which goes in the opposite direction to most Liverpool-bound buses so doesn't stop at the main stop) until 09:01 (52A). On bank holidays especially, there can be people waiting at the main stop at 07:00-07:30 not knowing that there won't be a bus for another hour or so! View my new Flickr Updated! |

That is the route that the evening and Sunday 55 service followed until somebody at Arriva realised that there was a demand for the 52/52A evenings and Sundays and I too have seen potential passengers at bus stops along this route waiting in vain. Until the recent withdrawal of the 53A, the first bus from Aintree Station on a Sunday was 06.15. This covered Park Lane, Park Lane West, Glovers Lane and Fleetwoods lane but now the first (replacement) 63 is 10.08. That's almost four hours later. In the unlikely event that Arriva does tweek the early 55 route, I doubt that they would add a suffix 'A' as Arriva seems to have a total aversion to such things as that may well inform the passengers as to what route the bus will take. As regards the Merseytravel 130, that is being replaced next week with an hourly 30 service. Crazy! |

So my area's Sunday and bank holiday morning service to Liverpool is about to get worse... I may send a suggestion in about those few 55 journeys serving Glovers Lane as it'd be a perfect solution and shouldn't put Arriva out much, if at all. The loop from Almonds Turn to Glovers Lane and back towards Gorsey Lane would take five minutes at the most and, as I said earlier, there's 10+ minutes of lay-over time in Liverpool anyway. RE: Arriva North West - Bootle Depot
Bootle's Pulsars in big demand this afternoon for the Crabbies Grand National shuttle service at Aintree. I presume the city-centre bound routes will have a full allocation of deckers (including some on-loan ones from Speke). Huge convoy of Pulsars seen heading in the direction of the racecourse included; 2918 (CX58 EXK), 2925 (CX58 FZG), 2929 (CX58 FZL) along with Pulsar2 variants 2944 (MX09 LYF) and 3017 (MX59 FFV). All with "AINTREE RACES-A1" on their LED displays, although 2929 said "HOME OF THE GRAND NATIONAL" (or something similar). It would be nice if Bootle could keep Speke's deckers (they'll probably go back Monday), as their routes definitely seem to be attracting more passengers lately. |

RE: Arriva North West - Bootle Depot
There were still several single deckers out, with at least two Darts on the 54 viewable from Sandhills station. I could've sworn I saw one of Speke's B7s on the 53 at one point but could easily have been mistaken from that distance. Speke should rightly get its loanee deckers back tomorrow - it doesn't have such a large allocation for nothing. That said, Bootle could help themselves by allocating their spares a lot better than at present: the 61 has more than enough already on weekdays.

2227 had broken-down on Stanley Road by Scotland Road yesterday afternoon, on a 56 towards Netherton IIRC. View my new Flickr Updated! |

RE: Arriva North West - Bootle Depot
Bootle have started using their older Enviro400s on the Moorfields rail replacement now that the loaned trio from Speke have returned home. On Saturday 18/04, the four rail replacement buses were 4411, 4414, 4415 and 4423, while yesterday they were 4208, 4419, 4425 and 4434. I believe the school runs have been lost from Easter which may explain why nothing has been loaned to Bootle for the rail replacement work.
