I'm guessing that the difference between the initial batch of 159/0s and the eight 158s converted to 159/1 units in 2006/7 is down to the different engine types between the two sub classes?
Possibly but more likely that they were just converted later. They had not had a sub class for any of the other units with Perkins engines.

Temporary change to DMU diagrams at the moment..

158s that usually split at Chester to form 0958 Holyhead/1002 Llandudno now both go through to Holyhead. 175 that arrives from Crewe at 1000 now forms 1002 to Llandudno instead of stabling at Chester and replaces the 158 until 1555 at Chester where it terminates on arrival from Piccadilly and joins to the 1622 back to Picc as previously booked. A 158 restarts the original diagram with a 1600 Chester to Llandudno service.

Hope that all makes sense!

To strengthen the 1130 ex Holyhead and utilise the 175 instead of it sitting in the yard all day.

Would this also be because of the School Holidays as well and that some services along the coast do become extremely busy and using units that would otherwise be spare is a good use of valuable resources .
