TransPennine Express
RE: First Transpennine Express
Im sure there is a market for St Helens to Scotland as well as the North East .

At the present it maybe that an extra stop puts pressure on both routes pinch points notably at Wigan , Stalybridge , Huddersfield , Leeds and Colton Junction.

As regards the Liverpool - Newcastle service, in the Newcastle direction, the service has 8 minutes stand at Manchester Victoria, so if running to time, it shouldn't inconvenience things to insert a stop.

Yeah it may have that amount of stand time in that direction , but to be any use the service in the other direction must be able to be accommodated as well.

It probably has the time that it has because the following train is a Manchester Airport service which has a more time sensitive delivery required at Ordsall Lane , Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly .

But interesting times ahead for TPX out of Liverpool Lime Street

Merseytravel's press release regarding the new franchises seems to suggest the Liverpool – Scotland services will indeed call at St Helens:

Merseytravel Wrote:Direct services to Scotland. A new direct TransPennine Express service – three services a day – from Lime St to Glasgow, removing the need to change at Preston or Wigan. In addition, an hourly direct TransPennine Express service to Edinburgh (via Newcastle). There will be St Helens stops en route.

The return of Liverpool – Scotland trains will be fantastic. I went to Glasgow recently and there were a fair few people who detrained from the Liverpool – Preston train at Wigan NW and boarded the subsequent Pendolino to Glasgow, so I'm sure it will be a well patronised link.

There seems to be some mixed messages as First and DfT were suggesting the existing Liverpool to Newcastle will be extended to Edinburgh and the new TPE Liverpool to Yorkshire service on Chat Moss from December 17 will be picking up calls at stations currently served by the Northern Liverpool to Manchester Airport service.

I was under the impression there is to be 2 different Services, an hourly Service from Liverpool to Eddy and a 3 Trips a day service to Glasgow stopping in St Helens

Think it was mentioned a few posts back that the Glasgow service was to be non-stop Liverpool - Preston. The Edinburgh service is the extended Liverpool - Newcastle service, so no change in the fact it won't stop between Liverpool - Manchester. Apologies for slightly blurring the franchises here but the only gains on the Chat Moss line will be the 2 Northern Connect services (Liverpool - Leeds and Chester - Leeds*) as the Liverpool - Scarborough service will take the path of the current Airport service (which as I understand it is diverted via Warrington).

Getting confused now as post 184 says the Glasgow one will stop at St Helens and its on the Merseytravel Website that it will stop here as well

Apologies as I was also going off post 186 (as well as earlier suggestions). Guess we'll have to await further details/confirmation.
