I can still see the news buletins in my head with the flames just shooting of the ventilation shafts , it is incredible though that the tunnel was not really badly damaged by all that heat , hats off to the builders in the 19th century . |

The outer ring of bricks were vitrified in the fire. If there'd been more air available things would have been much worse as the temperatures attained would have been that bit higher... |

As I recall, the crew uncoupled some of the wagons and the loco pulled them out of the tunnel |

I think it was the locomotive and the first three tanks . Those tanks are the ones that actually stayed on the track. |
