There building a new interchange alongside the station similar to lea green and st helens junction which will have car park and bus stops there.

I believe the bus part of the Interchange going to be built on the other[South] side of the station where the car park is, with a new entrance & ticket hall.

In fact I've just been on Newton road where the station is and it was the housing estate is on the former site of mill green school where there was building. No fenced off area on the station car park.
