All in all it took about 3 hours to sort . 185115 was the unit that failed, the assisting unit went wrong way from Huyton to St Helens Junction to couple to the front then as stated above further problems developed so the assisting unit had the passengers transferred onto it which then ran to Huyton to get the passengers to there to change onto Northern to Lime St,the assisting unit then went back to the failed unit and with assistance from a fitter from Ardwick depot the units coupled up and ran ECS to Ardwick after crossing over at Huyton, all in all the failure/line being blocked lasted from approximately 0750-1135 |

I saw two Hattons buses displaying contract hire rather than rail replacement |

RE: First Transpennine Express
I wondered why a 185 was heading eastwards showing "out of service" around that time |

RE: First Transpennine Express

Rumours abound that loco + stock haulage will be brought in to cover shortages on Anglo Scottish services with Class 68 the favourite. All time rail mileage travelled 327264 miles |

I heard the plan was to take on the soon to be off-lease Pretendolino set, split it in to two and haul the two sets using 68s on Liverpool-Newcastle services, freeing up 2 x 185s to replace 170s on South TPE. Then one of the current TPE North West diagrams (which will transfer to Northern) will get Sprinters instead of 185s to free up a third 185, so that 3 x 185s replace 4 x 170s. |

RE: First Transpennine Express
Contracts on the new trains are apparently being signed today with an announcement at Manchester Piccadilly platform 12 on Friday morning with a Desiro in the new livery arriving at platform 12 at around 08:45. |
