Nothing new here, they've been doing this for years.

Correct about the 10. 10A had an extra bus put on for greater recovery time and running time at the end of last summer.

This is the point I was making - the additional bus in the 10A PVR will have been added at the same time as the 79's two were. The 10's frequency was reduced to 4 buses per hour well before this happened, prior to the St Helens deckers arriving. IIRC, a Green Lane route also had an additional bus added, possibly the 15 but not certain.

The fact remains that not all depots have had a reduction of 5 buses overall. Speke to my knowledge have only lost the one off the 500 and nothing else.

Summer timetables are due to kick in at Speke depot (and other depots) which will see the PVR drop on routes such as the 81/81A

The whole cut 5 buses to reduce costs doesn't sound right, surely its more a case of cut anything which isn't meeting profit margins, or tighten up slackness in timetables where possible to try and reduce the PVR by maybe 1 or 2 buses to save running an extra bus. In most cases on the Wirral at least the running times are already stretched and other than pulling off routes and trips theres not much they can cut back.

Its correct in the case of Birkenhead's route 2, stagecoach are dominant and the majority use stagecoach's cheaper fares, so id imagine they are making a loss hence why its taken off, but saying they are going to axe 5 buses from each depot to save money regardless doesn't sound right to me, especially on very profitable routes.

I am no longer active on this forum.

We all need to remember, as we approach its 30th birthday, that bus deregulation was a means by which central government could reduce its financial support to bus services by putting them into the private sector. The ideology then, and even more so now, is that the private sector exists to make a profit. As the locals in the shire counties know only too well, if it's not profitable it doesn't run. Just be thankful you don't live in the neighboring counties of Lancashire or Cheshire.
