Lancashire Travel and MTL Manchester - a few network questions
When MTL ventured into Greater Manchester, they introduced the following routes under Lancashire Travel (with mirrored GMB/GMN routes in brackets): 2 St Helens - Ashton - Wigan (320, 600) 10 Liverpool - St Helens - Ashton - Bolton (320, 542) 62 St Helens - Wigan 510 Liverpool St Helens - Wigan - Bolton (542) 571/572 Bolton - Great Lever (571/572) 582 Bolton - Leigh (582) In November 1993 this was changed to: 2 St Helens - Ashton - Wigan - Kitt Green (320, 600, 628) 10 Manchester - Bolton - Ashton - St Helens - Liverpool (320, 542, 12) 34 St Helens - Leigh - Manchester (34) 62 St Helens - Wigan - Leigh - Manchester (658, 34) 510 Liverpool - St Helens - Wigan - Bolton - Walkden (542, 36???) 559 St Helens - Wigan - Bolton (559) 582 St Helens - Leigh - Bolton (320, 600, 582) They were fairly soon changed to the following in May 1994: 1/2 St Helens - Wigan (320, 600) [Kitt Green replaced by 628] 10 Liverpool - St Helens - Ashton (320) 12 Bolton - Manchester (12) [split from 10] 14A St Helens - Leigh (34 but via Haydock) [replaced 34] 36 Bolton - Manchester (36) 62 Wigan - Manchester 68/68X Bolton - Farnworth - Manchester (68) 510 Liverpool - Bolton (32/33) [Walkden replaced by 36] 542 Bolton - Wigan (542) 553 Leigh - Farnworth (553) 559 Wigan - Bolton [split from St Helens leg] 571/572 Bolton - Great Lever (571/572) 582 Ashton - Leigh - Bolton (600, 582) 628 Wigan - Kitt Green [split from 2] MTL Manchester was introduced to operate further east, starting with the mammoth 18/19 circular from Manchester to Rochdale via Oldham and Bury (over the GM routes 17, 58, 471 and 135/136 group), starting October 1993. This was later withdrawn, but replaced with other routes in Feb 1994. The following routes were introduced in Feb 1994, replicating GMB/GMS routes: 14 (Offerton), 42X, 43/43X, 58 (Oldham-Rochdale), 76, 83, 105/106, 203/204, 255, 263. This leads on to a few questions: 1) Have I missed anything? 2) I know MTLM changed things soon after as they operated onto the 135/136 corridor, but I don't have any info from that change, so when did this happen and what else changed? 3) Were there any further changes that I have missed? And the hypothetical question... 4) Did MTL have any further plans for new routes and developments that were never implemented because of that agreement to pull out of Greater Manchester? (ps - I have also asked this on another board, so you may see this post twice) |

RE: Lancashire Travel and MTL Manchester - a few network questions
I know some Lancashire Travel routes that although split, still interworked, for example from the May 94 changes, the 510 worked through as the 68/68X to Manchester. I'm not sure of the other route combinations though. |

The odd one was the arrangement that included the 553 and 68X, which meant going from Leigh to Manchester involved going via Walkden... twice. |
