I'm a socialist but awakened enough know we will never see a non-capitalist solution, so I'd rather see a franchise system with a full network of local routes like we had in Manchester in the 1990's to the early 2000's. |

Deregulation came about because we had a Government in the 1980s hellbent on abolishing State intervention into industry in the name of free-market Capitalism. It wasn't nice then. It isn't nice now. Reregulation of the buses is the sensible thing to do - pay off the shareholders of these companies, and bring everything back into the public fold to be operated for the public good. Then we need a half way house solution , a bit more regulation and a bit more free thinking from some of the companies involved in the bus industry these days , between them they must surely be able to come up with something. |
