Arriva network following takeover of MTL (April 2000)
In April 2000, two months after the takeover of MTL, Arriva introduced a revised network in Merseyside with many routes being chopped, withdrawn or renumbered. Here's a rough guide to the Arriva Network in Liverpool as of the 25th April 2000. I don't have any details for Southport, St. Helens or the Wirral, so if anyone can fill me in, that will be great (...) = previous number 1/1X City Centre - Kirkby 2 City Centre - Kirkby 3 City Centre - Kirkby 4 City Centre - Kirkby 5 City Centre - Kirkby 6 City Centre - Huyton 8/8D City Centre - Huyton 9 - City Centre - Huyton 10/10A - City Centre - St Helens - Earlestown 11- City Centre - Stockbridge Village - Prescot 12/13 City Centre - Stockbridge Village 14 City Centre - Croxteth 14A City Centre - Kirkby Admin 15 (75) City Centre - Huyton 17 Formby - Banks 17B City Centre - Broadway 17C/17D City Centre - Fazakerley 18A City Centre - Croxteth Park 18C City Centre - Fazakerley 19 City Centre - Tower Hill 19B City Centre - Northwood 19C City Centre - Kirkby Admin 19E City Centre - Gilmoss 20 Aigburth Vale - Tower Hill 26/27 Sheil Road Circulars 30 City Centre - Netherton 32 City Centre - Runcorn 40 City Centre - Huyton 44/45/54/54A Bootle - Litherland 49/49A Broadgreen Hospital - St. Helens 50 (90) City Centre - Crosby 51 (91) City Centre - Waterloo 52/52A (82/82A) City Centre - Netherton 53 (86) City Centre - Thornton 53C (86A) City Centre - Crosby 55 City Centre - Old Roan 55A City Centre - Netherton 55B - Bootle - Netherton 56 City Centre - Netherton 57 (137) City Centre - Crosby Hall Road 60 Bootle - Aigburth Vale 61/61A Bootle - Aigburth Vale 62 (92) Crosby - Penny Lane 68 Bootle - Aigburth Vale 73 (33) City Centre - Halewood 73A (33A) City Centre - Allerton 75 (35) City Centre - Halewood 78 City Centre - Halewood 78A (38) City Centre - Halewood 79 City Centre - Netherley 79A City Centre - Lee park 79C/79D City Centre - Netherley 80 City Centre - Speke 80A City Centre - Airport 81 Bootle - Speke 82 City Centre - Speke 82A City Centre - Garston 86 City Centre - Garston 89 Speke - St Helens 90 Kirkby - St Helens 217 City Centre - Halewood 284 City Centre - Southport 300 City Centre - Southport 311 City Centre - Holborn Hill - Ormskirk 345 City Centre - Skelmersdale 351 City Centre - Town Green - Ormskirk Withdrawn services: 14B City Centre - Gilmoss 18 City Centre - Crosby 86A City Centre - Garston 210/210X City Centre - Huyton 212/212X City Centre - Huyton 255 City Centre - Netherton 258 Stockbridge Village - Prescot 261/262 City Centre - Huyton 274/275 City Centre - Huyton 350 City Centre - Maghull X8 City Centre - Southport |

I'm sure after the Arrive revised network it was, the 18 became the 50, 90 was withdrawn, as the 50 served Endbutt Lane via the 18, 90 went via Chesterfield Road, the 17 Formby-Banks was extended to Liverpool to replace X8, or 284 increased in frequency, the 210 became 10B, the Merseytravel smart service 1 was replaced by the 11, with the 11 City-Huyton withdrawn. It was around this time the 300 was increased to every 30 minutes with 302 withdrawn. My Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/31135444@N02/ |

RE: Arriva network following takeover of MTL (April 2000)
Wirral network 10B New Brighton-Parkgate withdrawn, partly replaced by the 487. 10C was withdrawn with 1 renumbered to 401, extended to Chester as replacement, some of the V***ENC ALX300 DAFs were transferred to this service 6 New Brighton-Woodside withdrawn The rest of the Arriva Wirral network was renumbered to 4xx series 3/3A/3B becoming 403/413/423 7/7A/8/8A Woodside-New Brighton became 405/406/407/408, with 407/408 through to Liverpool as part replacement of the original 407/408 which went Overchurch Road-Liverpool 410/411 Liverpool-Bromborough was withdrawn St Helens network stayed the same until 2006 network review, i think most of the Southport network stayed the same until 2006 too My Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/31135444@N02/ |

You're slightly incorrect here. 18 was simply withdrawn, but the 57 diverted via Kingsway & Endbutt Lane to compensate, the 50 was a straight forward renumbering of the 90 17 wasn't extended to replace the X8, however upon Southport review did become 47. The 284 & 57 eventually combined to become 48 before various extensions etc resulted in 47/48/48A grouping eventually resulting in the now 47 |

Did the 284 get a frequency increase to cover for the withdrawn X8, until the Southport review? One of the Liverpool-Ormskirk routes was diverted in Maghull to partly replace the 350, may have been 351 As i've said the 210 was renumbered to 10B, with the rest of the former Liverbus network withdrawn My Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/31135444@N02/ |

It was Dennis Lance chassis https://www.flickr.com/photos/43911105@N00/13299931505/ I remember them at Bootle, some were allocated to the X8 after the X8 was split to become Liverpool-Banks. That’s incorrect. The 1 wasn’t replaced by the 11 until around 2006 at which point the 4/4a replaced the 100/200 Dingle Mount Circular. The 11 that replaced the 1 was just the Broadgreen to Liverpool section with the 82A covering Liverpool to Aigburth Vale. The original 11 was City to Huyton/Prescot via Woolfall Heath/Bluebell and operated by ex- London Plaxton Pointer Darts and was later replaced by the 21 Stockbridge to Prescot (later Huyton) The 210 became the 8D prior to 10B and would have been changed to this around 2001. Residents found the number confusing assuming it operated via Woolfall Heath and Longview. |

My 1999 Liverpool map shows an 8D Liverpool-Huyton evening & Sundays only, operated by Merseybus over the 210 route, 210 had an evening & Sunday service too which is bizarre as they were both operated by Merseybus on the same route, but the 8D went to Huyton Station with 210 to Elizabeth Road My Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/31135444@N02/ |
